Charleston Receipts# F-CJ609
By The Junior League of Charleston, SC
In the half-century since its first publication in 1950, "Charleston Receipts" has become the quintessential collection of Lowcountry cuisine, shattered many a community cookbook sales record, and, over time, become the oldest cookbook of its kind continuously in print.
Originally put together by twenty-one Junior League ladies as a fundraiser for the Charleston Speech and Hearing Center, with an initial investment of $150, this 800-recipe volume has taken on a life of its own. The first 2,000 copies sold out in only four days; as of 1994, nearly 700,000 copies had been printed and sold.
In 1990, the collection was inducted into the Walter S. McIlhenny Hall of Fame for Community Cookbooks. And rarely does a tourist explore the streets and restaurants of the Holy City without going home with a copy of this marvelous compendium.
Quite simply, "Charleston Receipts" is an indispensable kitchen companion for fans of South Carolina Lowcountry cuisine.
